iConnect Console Access

To get access to the console of the iConnect, you need something that can connect using RS-232 at 3.3V (for instance, using the FT-232RL 3.3V USB adapter). Simply plug in the device, download the drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm FTDI] and use the following commands to connect:

  • OS X:
    screen /dev/cu.usbserial.*** 115200
  • Windows: find out which COM-port the device has been assigned (through Start→Run→devmgmt.msc); then use HyperTerminal or any other terminal program
  • Linux: probably also the 'screen' command; find the device in /dev by looking in dmesg (will probably be named 'ttyUSB0')

To connect, you need to open up the iConnect (remove the two screws at the bottom, at the front side (i.e. the side with the three USB ports) under the rubber pads) and find the pin header near to the Kensington hole (which can conveniently be used for the wires). Then, connect your RS-232 adapter as follows:
